2022 Selection Committee
In keeping with the meaning and criteria of the Scholar-Athlete Award and Scholarship, the Selection Committee is a blend of individuals whose professional lives have been focused on scholarship and/or athletics.
A current High School Varsity coach from a Tri-county school district.
A current High School Assistant Varsity coach from a different Tri-county school district.
A Member-at-Large
Dr. James A. Rego, Eugene, OR. Recently retired professor of Organic Chemistry.
Served on the faculties of Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA; Reed College, Portland, OR; and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA. Was a HS scholar -athlete (football).
Dr. Elizabeth A. Heldman, Youngstown, OH. Retired professor of English.
Served on the faculties of Florida Gulf Coast University, the University of South Florida, the University of Pittsburgh, and Youngstown State University.
To achieve maximum objectivity in the selection process, no one currently employed with the Struthers School District or the City of Struthers is on the selection committee. Also, the names of the candidates will be blacked out on all application materials before such materials leave the SHS Guidance Department in April 2022 and forwarded to the selection committee.
